There’s something so poetic and heartbreaking about Mary not wanting to hurt her mother. It’s not out of pity or wanting to ease the strain of the divorce it’s just purely a daughter’s love for her mother who’s always been there. Her mother who has never tried to make Mary feel outcasted or othered or unloved.

Even when Mary KNOWS that something is wrong in her bones, she cannot force herself to do anything but trail after her mother and try and make her proud even if what she’s doing could get her hurt. She loves her mom. And it sucks that the last she saw of her was her mother trying to kill her.

Smosh vs aliens you live on forever in my heart

Thinking about what could have been for those four girls if they had not been forced to deal with those horrors..

Thinking of Tampa finally making friends and maybe finding a connection with Mary in their weirdness. Tampa learning to let go of her fears, Mary learning to let of her guilt over her parents situation, Mackenzie feeling loved and d cherished by her friends and winning her game and Tabitha becoming a gymnast and getting her well deserved medal. All the girls going to Mackenzie's games and cheering for her and going to Tabitha's competition and doing the same.

They could have been the best of friends and grown up together.

while im in the process of clipping some fun bits from the first smosh vs aliens episode. i want to take a post to give george his flowers as GM for this bc. WOW. he bounces so well off of every single person in cast and plays up the humor so well. AND the way he plays the parents of each of the characters gives them so much additional depth and heart.

Like Mary and Tampa are both excellent characters already but the way George plays off of them- playing into comedic elements, pulling it back to very clear affection and showing how much these moms love their kids, establishing characterization of both the moms and the kids with little one liners and bits- makes them even better! Also means its gonna hurt like HELL later on!

And on the flipside, the way he plays Tabitha and Mackenzie's parents (and siblibgs) drives home the specific ways in which their characters are struggling or left hanging at points, and the real humanity and realities there. Gut punch in other ways.

Its all really neatly and effectively done. AND. on top of it being excellent characterization. Its also so funny! He plays into the comedy of it really well. its really good all around idk.

everyone's characterizatioms for the first episode of smosh vs aliens is a delight, i want to protect ALL of them. But i wasnt expecting how effective Mackenzie's character was going to be. Chanse is playing her so effectively its causing me secondhand psychic damage. Someone protect this girl. (remembers the genre of this ttrpg) ah fuck.
